Another boyfriend this one did the breakup in public, in front of her shop. The cure was margaritas with a friend that night. Lights and police meet her the next morning a breakin, and murder. Her life, her shop she worked so hard far was in ruins. Brian was new to town, well like, only me, disliked what he did. Then finding apartment, with a note, or warning. What was she to do, couldn’t open shop for a crime scene, or to apartment, that was a crime scene. The author painted a good picture, of how devasted Lacey was, and still in danger. New author to read, and was very pleased with the plot, the characters, and the flow to the end. Will look for more by her.Product details

I happened on this book as an giveaway sponsored by Jennifer Ito. Amazingly, I won a copy. Thank you so much for allowing me the privilege of being among the first reviewers and for a very enjoyable reading break, Ms. Ito.
Thank you for leaving out the things that would have sent me to another reading selection immediately. F--- words would have ended the story for me before I got a good start. I can sometimes tolerate them in the speech of an occasional few characters, but I can't stand them for long. Indicators that the author is writing from the gutters to an audience in the gutters include coarse language, graphic violence, and explicit sexual content. I know what sex feels like and, all too well, what the receiving end of violence feels like. I prefer not to be reminded. Coarse language just shows a lack of vocabulary.
Editing should have been better. Spell check is a wonderful tool, but it does not correct everything.
The main character is a determined young lady, but I found myself wondering about her. I gave up drinking as an escape route years ago. I would always wake up the next morning with a hangover, the same problems I had before I started drinking, and more I would not have had if I had not been drinking.
The story is complete as written but leaves room for more to come. I think I see these same characters returning soon in a future volume.
Please keep practicing, Ms. Ito. Perfection is not that far away.
Lacey Greene was a relatively happy owner of a bakery business. What do you call a bad day? No matter how many bad experiences you had Lacey probably beat you. Not only her new boyfriend broke up with her in the most spectacular fashion right in the middle of her dining room full of customers, he also had a bad grace to be killed by the bakery's back door. Oh, and to top it off somebody broke into the said bakery at night. And Lacey was having a really bad hangover having celebrated her (now dead) boyfriend breaking up with her the night before.
This however was only the beginning for Lacey as the unknown killer seemed to be determined to make her life as exciting as possible using different but always shocking methods. Luckily for Lacey she had two handsome guys to protect her - from the killer, but not from her own actions.
I already mentioned one negative side a much-dreaded love triangle. In this book however it never took the central stage and played more or less casual role never getting in the way of the actual mystery.
Speaking about the mystery it was quite good. The tale came very close to being called thriller, but in the end managed to remain on the side of cozy mystery practically all gruesome detailed were left behind the scene. This is always a plus for me as I feel our modern society had more than enough real-life gruesome happenings.
Cozy Mystery
The plot was fast-moving and interesting enough to make this a good and easy read; it was never boring. On the other hand I noticed some typos in my copy, so people reacting badly to them should probably skip this edition until they are fixed.
My final rating would be 3.5 stars which I round up as an encouragement for a new author.
This was a nice bedtime read but the need to have had the book edited before publication is very apparent. The amount of errors distracted me from enjoying the book.
Good book but needs some serious editing, too many errors
First book by this Author and her first story. Book was very interesting and entertaining. Loved the characters, the plot, and telling of the story. One small problem or I would have given 5 stars..... need better proof reading, a few mistakes!
Wanted to love this series but i don't like it when the main character has two (gorgeous) guys after her. That takes over the whole book, why can't you just leave it at one? Vinny hasn't shown any interest in her for years, please put her with Jack in the next book.
This is a new author & series for me. The title came up as a suggestion on . I read the synopsis & decided to take a chance. Halfway through book 1, I went back to & bought books 2 & 3! It was quite a thrill ride as main character bakery owner Lacey Greene has to deal with murder, arson, kidnapping, etc. Lots of suspense as Lacey is locked in a desperate race to identify her stalker before he gets her. Assisting, protecting, & providing lots of sizzle are two very delectable men, newcomer Detective Jack Johns & ex-high school boyfriend Vinny. I didn't find any editing errors that another reviewer noted, but maybe it's because I was so involved in the story. Now I'm off to read book 2!
